Going to university is as exciting as it is expensive – but with a little creativity you can give your room at uni a cosy makeover without breaking the bank! As well as all the usual student house rules like no parties and buy your own milk, most landlords will not let you make any real changes, so it can be hard to make your room your own. Photo prints are a great way to decorate your desk and walls and add your personality to your space without a hammer or nail in sight, and the best thing is they remind you of home! We’ve put together some fun photo print decor ideas for you to try, and with our 15% student discount, you can turn your new room into a home from home in no time.
We love this desk setup from @hstudies on Instagram with photo prints hung on a wire frame with mini pegs! Hanging photos from string or wire is a super cute way to display your photos without individual frames, and you can just use Command Strips to hang up the frame instead of nails. Recreate this look with Retro Prints, 6×4 prints and square prints.
If there’s one thing that brings photo prints to life outside a frame, it’s fairy lights. Light enough to hang up with washi tape, you can hang your photos on them with mini clips or wooden pegs. Position above your desk to give you inspiration when writing those essays!

If you prefer the vertical look, you can dangle your photos from a hanging wire using magnets or stick photo strips to the wall (available in store) with colourful Washi tape. Create a zig-zag style with landscape 6×4 prints positioned at slight angles. You don’t need to use magnets for this, just simple string and clips would work just as well, and you can hang it all up with a sticky-backed hook. Try clipping sprigs of dried flowers to add a touch of texture and bring your photo story to life.
If hanging or sticking anything on your wall is a no-no, you can stay wall-free and use crocodile clip stands to put your pics on your desk. Just 2 or 3 are enough to bring a smile to you while flicking through your to-do list. Small photo prints are great for this, such as Instax, especially their Pink Lemonade colour, yum.
You can get really creative with displaying your prints when you start playing around with them. Why not try showing your romantic side with a string of photo prints arranged in a heart shape? Clip your most heart-felt memories above your bed and make you wake up filled with love and happiness… Aaah. We’ve used Retro Prints here but you can mix and match the sizes to find your perfect match. Have a look at the options here.
Corkboards are a great way to get organised whilst adding personality to your desk space, and the good thing is you can keep it really casual. Pin up your favourite pics one week and replace them the next week with pictures to inspire you on your latest project. If you’ve only got a small space to work with, photo strips work really well, as well as square prints or Instax.

Art prints can be a bit out of the student price range – but when you have your own creations to feature you don’t need to shop around. You can create your own poster print up to A1 size using your favourite photo from only £4. You don’t need to stick it up with blue tack for it to be affordable either, a wooden magnetic clip frame looks trendy and minimalist and won’t break the bank.

Magnetic photo prints are so versatile. Their retro style has a polaroid look and with a magnetic strip on the back, no fridge is safe! You can even buy sticky backed magnetic strips to attach them to any surface, or if you have a magnetic chalk board you can get really creative. A great gift for anyone with any metallic surface in their life. Buy a pack of 4 in store for £2.
There are so many great ways to decorate your room with photo prints on a budget, and with our photo deals on 6”x4” prints at the moment, you can get 50 for £10, 100 for £15 as well as 6p per print for small runs.
